The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) is a health insurance program for immigrants and refugees who aren't yet qualified for Provincial health insurance plans.

Apart from basic health and emergency services, the IFHP coverage for immigration and refugees also includes psychotherapy. The coverage details may vary from person to person, depending on their specific needs and circumstances.

The Medavie Blue Cross has approved Insight Mind as a service provider to those covered under IFHP.

Psychotherapy Services Covered under IFHP

IFHP entails certain psychotherapy services that can be accessed by those who seek asylum in Canada and are covered under the program. Some services under IFHP include:

● Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy aims to change negative thought patterns into positive ones. CBT is useful for immigrants who are struggling to cope and adjust to their new surroundings.

● EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is particularly useful for refugees from conflict-laden parts of the world. Based on precise eye movements, EMDR is very effective for PTSD and other disorders related to a traumatic experience.

● Mindfulness-Based Interventions

These include mindfulness treatments and an awareness of the present to reduce anxiety and stress.

● Schema Therapy

Schema therapy is an integrated solution that includes various dynamic approaches to manage emotional and psychological challenges, as well as helping immigrants adjust to their new environment by building healthy relationships.

● Family Therapy

This includes improving communication and building healthy relationships with the whole family.
