Essential Skills
The most common work visa, the essential skills work visa allows you to be employed in New Zealand if your employer has been unable to employ a New Zealander in the role or your occupation is on one of the shortage lists. You must have a job offer or be employed in the role before you can apply for this visa. As part of their assessment, Immigration New Zealand will consider the following:
- Are you suitably qualified to do the work you have been offered?
- Has your employer made genuine attempts to recruit and/or train New Zealanders for the role you have been offered?
- Your employer is compliant with employment and immigration law and has no adverse history of non-compliance.
